Suffering A Slow Down In Your Business? How You Can Overcome It

By businesscoaching | September 11, 2008

Has your business and particularly sales suffered recently and you’re not sure why?  It may be due to the current economic climate, but not necessarily, and its not a healthy business approach to assume that the current climate is to blame.  It may be that you need to look inside your business and yourself to see what has changed?

Take a minute to think back to the beginning days of your business and I guess you had lots of ideas, boundless enthusiasm and plenty of ways of bringing in new business.  Then as things started to take off, you got busier and busier.  This was great because the sales were coming in and your business was starting to grow.

What often happens next is some of those ideas you had get put to one side and you’ve forgotten about the methods you used to bring in new business.  It is easy to take your foot off the accelerator.  The problem is this often doesn’t show up in a lack of sales straight away due to momentum you had created earlier.  But if it does happen, it could be that you stopped doing some things that worked before to bring in sales.

Yes, the current climate may not be great for some businesses and I suggest you first need to look at the things you’re currently doing or have stopped doing that could have caused an impact on your business.

There is a very powerful and simple question you can ask yourself, and that is “What am I now not doing that worked for me before?”  Be willing to listen to any answers you come up with.  You may find the answer to your sales problem right on the tip of your tongue.

Also ask yourself, “What ideas and methods of getting sales have I come up with before and not yet implemented?”  Give yourself some time to brainstorm the different possibilities.  Sometimes just the process of coming up with these new ideas helps to rejuvenate us and ready to take some action.

If you find it difficult to answer the above questions for yourself, consider asking someone outside of your business to help you discover the answers to these questions.  Some people find it much easier to get answers when they’re talking it through with someone else.

When you’re running your own business, you’re often very close to it and it can be hard to see it objectively.  An outsider such as a coach can help you to see your business clearer and identify what you need to do to drive sales back up again.
